Common questions
Does Google cut titles by character count or pixel width?
By pixel width. Google truncates a title once its rendered width passes a pixel budget, not at a fixed character count, so a title of wide letters is cut sooner than one of narrow letters at the same character count. realserp measures the real rendered width in the browser.
How wide can a title be before Google truncates it in 2026?
About 600 pixels on desktop and roughly 560 pixels on mobile, measured in Arial at Google's render size. That is around 50 to 60 characters, but characters are only a rough guide because width depends on the actual letters. The measured budgets are on the SERP pixel widths page.
Will Google show my exact title and description?
Not always. Google rewrites a large share of titles and frequently rewrites descriptions from page content, so a well-fitted title is necessary but not sufficient. realserp shows how your written tags would render if Google keeps them.
Does anything I type or upload get sent anywhere?
No. Every measurement and the whole preview run in your browser, and a favicon you upload is read locally and never transmitted. That is why realserp works on localhost, staging, and pre-publish drafts.
